Rob Hunter played the lead role of Steve. This absolutely non-heroic role of tormented eighteen-old boy required from Rob really heroic effort. He had to fall on concrete in front of the car, to cover his face with mashed tomatoes, and oh horror! to keep this goo on for a long time licking it off by tiny little drop at a time.

Steve’s family died in a car accident. All guys of his age drive cars, but for Steve this is a real problem. He dreams about a car, but his inner voice, Grandmother, forbids him to drive. She also warns Steve about aliens growing all red tomatoes on their satellites…
I liked Rob’s technique of emotional halftones. I think it was perfect for showing the constant inner straggle Steve fights with a mental image of his Grandmother. His smile is so nice, but you can see suffering in his eyes throughout the entire film.
